Michelle Rogers
Issue date: 5/28/09 Section: Sports
Rogers, a senior, was outstanding this year on both the basketball court and the
softball field. She was named to the Liberty League First Team in each sport for her tremendous play. She was one of the big reasons why the women's basketball team had a 19-7 record, and finished first in the Liberty League regular season. In the
winter she averaged 16.5 points per game (third in the Liberty League), 7.3 rebounds per game (tied for fourth in Liberty League), and had a .622 field goal
percentage (first in the Liberty League, Second in NCAA Division III). She was named Liberty League Forward of the Week five times and was named the Liberty League Player of the Year. Rogers was also named the 2008-2009 Union College women's basketball Most Valuable Player and was given the Team Rebounding Award. The senior is the seventh player in program history to score 1000 points and pull down 500 rebounds. She was also a huge part of the softball team that went
31-6 and won the ECAC Division III Championship. The shortstop led the team with 32 runs scored and was fourth in the Liberty League with a .422 batting average, fifth with 11 doubles, and first in sac flies (4) and assists (91). Rogers is also a very good student and was named All-Academic in both basketball and softball this year.
