Issue date: 5/28/09 Section: Features
We continue with this section, in which an international student is asking 5 questions to another one. Today, Naina Bhushan, 20 of India interviews Camila Dorin, 20 of Argentina. Enjoy!
1. Tell me briefly about yourself.
I am Camila Dorin from Argentina. I moved to Spain when I was 13 years old. I am now majoring in Computer Engineering. I am pursuing a minor in both Mathematics and Digital Media.
2. Why did you choose to come to US?
I did not like the educational system of Spain. It is too focused on theory, instead of the practical application. The professors are not accessible. Moreover, I liked the idea of liberal arts education. This education system has given me the opportunity to explore courses, which I could not do back in Spain.
3. What do you think you gained from coming to US?
I have become more independent. More importantly, my communication skills in English have improved. I have been exposed to many other cultures here.
4. You were selected for a one-year term abroad in England. Can you tell us a little more about the program? Also, are you excited to go?
I applied to the Stone Fellowship, which allows one student to go abroad for 1 year. I chose to go to London and applied to a few colleges there. Next year, I will be studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at University College London (UCL). I am really excited about it. I will be closer to home!
5. What will you miss most about Union?
I will miss my friends and my campus life at Union. But, I will be back for my senior year to have a blast.
