With fall term a distant memory, students are readjusting to the work, weather, and daily life of the winter trimester. Back in November, Student Forum worked on a variety of school developments to create a new and improved Union of 2008. Among these changes are extended weekend hours at the Rathskellar; club aid, such as added activities funding; and club status for Bowling Club, Project Sunshine, and Russian and Eastern European Club.

Freshman Eliza Duquette comments, "I've definitely seen an improvement in certain areas of Union, especially the food. It's great having Rathskeller open more this term."

In addition to these changes, Campus Safety and the trolley service were contacted to better address safety issues, and President Stephan Ainlay worked alongside Student Forum to consider sustainability and the school's relationship with the Schenectady community.

Another environmentally-friendly project which started last spring is an effort to acquire wind power on campus. Student forum has already set aside a budget of $10,000 intended for this undertaking.

For those students interested in going abroad over break, Student Forum President Jessica Rudin notes, "We researched options for additional community service mini-terms, similar to the New Orleans trip." Recently Union added a mini term to be offered this summer, in which students will sail along the Delaware, Hudson, and Connecticut rivers.

In terms of studying, students can now work in the library until 2 a.m. or all night in designated rooms of Reamer and Steinmetz, in addition to the Minerva houses.

Although Rudin declares, "We've only just begun," there are a few improvements which Student Forum hopes to address in the upcoming weeks of the new term. Some highlights include an attempt to purchase "ZipCars," which students can sign out for a small fee for an allotted amount of time. The Forum hopes that this will cut down on parking and environmental issues.
