The money is donated through the American Cancer Society's Making Strides against Breast Cancer. Students can donate when they join a team, or they can send information to friends and family who can sponsor them in the walk.
Although the event is in conjunction with Hillel and Sigma Delta Tau, other students can form their own teams. A great turnout is expected from Union Students.
Thus far, the Hillel/ SDT team has raised approximately $1,200 and expect to receive more donations over the week. They also expect to have about 30 students walking from their team but anticipate many more from the other Union groups that are devoting their time to this cause.
Although there is no formal transportation being provided by the school, students participating will be dividing up and carpooling Sunday morning before the event.
"I am extremely proud of the amazing effort put forth by the team members. Unfortunately, breast cancer has affected many of our close friends and family members," comments Cohen.
"It is wonderful that so many Union Students have come together to raise awareness for such an important cause," Cohen added.
Similarly, Kathleen Hurley, the president of SDT, comments about her group's involvement in the event, saying, "as much as I think it's important to participate with events on campus, I think it is even more important that we take part in helping the community and showing Union's support."
