When reading this article, you may be wondering to yourself who is that studly human-being between those two beautiful girls in this week's photo of the staff writer. Well my friends, the statuesque man goes without being named but the two lovely ladies are non-other than the Concordy's own Kelly Owings and Corinne Simisky, a staff writers dream. Who's the Concordy winter season most eligible staff writer this year Mr. Smith Factor?
On to more important issues, the Union College Track Squad made the travel to Rochester this past weekend to compete in the New York State Indoor Championships. Upon entering the bus, Coach Larry "the Hawk" Cottrell amplified the team with such comments as "remember squad, don't believe the sky is the limit when you all know there are footprints (or spike marks) on the moon." With this in mind, Coach Riggi's bunch packed up the thirst quenching 8 fluid-ounce orange juices and bushels of bananas in hopes of arriving at Rochester in a New York Championship State of mind. The air was cold, the track was cleared, and the team's muscles were luke-warm, so if the garnet and white can interest you readers in a little championship actions then by all means read ahead.
The Lady Dutchwomen of the UC were nothing short of ordinary this past weekend. The girls took 11th overall place in New York State, but still remain no. 1 in our hearts from the dining hall at West Dorm all the way to the Bonsai sign perched above 1041 University. Running for the ladies were Bridget "I can never tie my spikes tight enuff, like it or not I'm the Duff" Duffy, taking 6th place in both the 55 and 200 meter races. Bridget just missed qualifying for an ECAC birth in both events, possessing a running technique similar to a midget at a urinal, remaining on her toes the entire time. Running the 55 meter dash and setting a personal best in the shot put was Union's Ironwoman Julie La Spina, she will now begin training for the Olympic Summer games of 2008, another WNBA championship season, and the New York City marathon. The 400 meter race was indulged in by non other than Sade (Shawwday) McKenzie, the Hawk award recipient for hardest and most creative first name on the team.
