It's a Midwest Thing: There's a stirking comparison between baseball and music in Chicago

The baseball season is fast approaching, as spring training is up and running and the World Baseball Classic starts up in only a couple days. The White Sox are looking to repeat as world champions in 2006 and since today is the much anticipated release (at least for me) of Ne-Yo's CD, I figured it would only be fitting to compare some of the current Sox players to some of the artists in the music industry and a song that relates to each of them.

-Ozzie Guillen/Kanye West: Both are at the top of their game right now. Ozzie is coming off a world championship while Kanye just won a few Grammy's for his latest cd. They are both the faces of Chicago in terms of sports and music at the moment and it seems as if they will hold that position for a while. A song that fits for these two would be Kanye's song We Don't Care as both of them really don't seem to have any trouble with speaking their minds.

-Mark Buehrle/Dave Matthews: Buehrle is always in the upper echelon of pitchers in the majors while Dave Matthews has and always will be at the top of the music world. Both are extremely consistent and even when one has a bad outing, it is still better than 90% of everyone's else. The song that links these two would be Drive in Drive Out as whenever Buehrle is on the mound, fans better rush and grab their hot dogs and Miller Lites as he is one of the quickest pitchers in baseball.

-Scott Podsednik/Twista: This one is kind of obvious. Both are the fastest in terms of running and rapping. They aren't superstars in their respective fields, but both are solid producers and when set with the right pieces can make a good team a great team. Overnight Celebrity would be their song as Twista is at his best on this track when paired with Kanye while Pods' first season with the Sox made him an overnight celebrity in Chicago.

-Bobby Jenks/Ne-Yo: Both are young and up and coming, who have blown onto the scene in their first years. Jenks throws 100 mph along with a knee buckling curve ball while Ne-Yo does something most artists can't which is write and sing. Since I love both of these guys there are two songs that fit them. It Just Ain't Right as it is simply unfair for opposing hitters to have to face Bobby and also So Sick as Bobby is so sick of everyone laughing at him for being a big boy. It gets cold in Chicago, he needs the layers.
