[January 15, 2006]: About 10,000 protestors gathered in Karachi, holding posters and chanting, "Death to American Aggression" and "Stop Bombing Innocent People". The cause of this protest? An attack carried out by the almighty United States of America.
Eighteen people are now dead after the attack on Damadola, a small town near the Afghan border. The attack was said to be carried out by the CIA.
The missile strike supposedly targeted al-Qaeda's deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri. Zawahiri, however, was said to not even be present during the time of the attack. In fact, the United States was aware that his presence was lacking, but carried out the attacks regardless.
It's good to know that America must come back from a mission with some foreign deaths in order for it to be considered a success. Eighteen innocent people are dead because America couldn't take its pompous self off of its shrinking pedestal.
Damadola was the main station of a banned pro-Taliban group, known as the Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi. The CIA used this bit of information to justify bombing the city, after the agency realized that Zawahiri was not present at the site of the attack.
Zawahiri has been in hiding since 2001, making it rather impossible for him to be out in the open at a public event. Yes, American, being in hiding means you generally don't want to be found. You knew Zawahiri was not present, so please don't act like his lacking availability was a surprise.
While 10,000 protestors seem menial in comparison to the hundreds of thousands of protestors who show up at marches in DC or NYC, 10,000 is still a number the United States should not ignore. Ten thousand people are outraged at the US occupation in the Middle East. There is not doubt that thousands more are just as outraged but failed to show up at the protest. In all reality, the US is making the violence in the Middle East worse. We have invaded country after country trying to kill off people who are in hiding. In our attempts to be the hero we have killed off hundreds of innocent civilians without the slightest bit of sympathy. We don't care, we never have and we never will.
The United States is the living disease talked about by Anti-Flag in their song, Red, White and Brainwashed: "the red stands for the blood of all the people we've slain/the white for this racist, bigoted foundation/the blue for your Aryan eyes - all empty". There is no hope for this so called peace that the United States preaches about. There is no hope when the country who swears up and down that all they want to do is promote peace overseas is the same country bombing random housing units for the hell of it; to get a great kick out of killing innocent women and children ... innocent families. There is simply no excuse for the actions of the United States. When will we get the hint? When will we learn? We are not welcome ... anywhere. How many more protests will have to occur, how many more innocent lives will have to be lost before someone reaches his senses?
